I'm giving my honest assessment of Beauty of Joseon Skincare in this piece. In this review, I evaluated several popular products from the brand, including Relief Sun Rice Probiotics SPF 50, Ginseng Moist Sun Serum SPF 50, Matte Sun Stick, Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream, Revive Serum, and Eye Cream.
Beauty of Joseon Skincare is a Korean skincare brand that mainly appeals to Western consumers while drawing inspiration from traditional Korean ingredients. If you're reading this, you're probably curious about why Beauty of Joseon Skincare has become so popular worldwide. To give some background, many of their formulas contain fermented extracts such as pumpkin ferment, soybean ferment, ginseng root, kelp, rice ferment, coconut fruit extract, and up to 30% rice extract combined with niacinamide. Although the brand describes its formulas as “clean,” it's worth noting that Beauty of Joseon Skincare still includes some synthetic ingredients and is not completely natural. Because of the buzz across social media, I finally decided to try some of the brand’s sunscreens and serums, including the well-known Relief Sun Rice Probiotics SPF 50 and Ginseng Moist Sun Serum SPF 50, and today I'm sharing my thoughts about this ultra-popular Korean skincare brand.
Ginseng Moist Sun Serum SPF 50
Although it feels slightly heavier than the extremely lightweight Relief Sun Rice Probiotics SPF 50, the Ginseng Moist Sun Serum SPF 50 is still incredibly pleasant on the skin. Surprisingly, the texture is thinner and more liquid-like than expected. It has a soft emollient feel while remaining lightweight and comfortable.
I especially love that the Ginseng Moist Sun Serum SPF 50 contains 2% niacinamide to help brighten and smooth the skin, along with an impressive 30% concentration of ginseng extract that supports anti-aging and wrinkle prevention.
Another great feature of the Ginseng Moist Sun Serum SPF 50 is that it leaves absolutely no white cast thanks to modern chemical UV filters that provide strong sun protection. It absorbs quickly into the skin and doesn't feel like it is sitting on the surface.
Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream
The Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream is a gel-based moisturizer that provides deep hydration without feeling heavy or overly rich. The Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream works especially well for people who want a lightweight product that still provides enough moisture for dry skin.
It has a slightly sweet scent and contains around 30% rice bran water, 5% ginseng root water, squalane, and niacinamide. For me, the Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream works best as a daytime moisturizer and layers beautifully under makeup. Although the formula includes some synthetic ingredients, it still feels wonderful on the skin and provides a refreshing hydration boost. I would recommend the Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream for people with combination, oily, or dehydrated skin.
Relief Sun Rice Probiotics SPF 50
The Relief Sun Rice Probiotics SPF 50 is undoubtedly one of the best sunscreens for people who dislike white casts and thick, heavy formulas. The Relief Sun Rice Probiotics SPF 50 feels incredibly lightweight and hydrating, almost like applying a moisturizer rather than sunscreen.
It leaves a soft dewy finish that eventually settles into a natural-looking glow without feeling like it is sitting on top of the skin. Because the Relief Sun Rice Probiotics SPF 50 is so lightweight, it can easily be reapplied throughout the day without feeling greasy or heavy.
While I can appreciate the elegance of Beauty of Joseon Skincare sunscreens, I personally tend to prefer thicker sunscreens that create a stronger occlusive barrier and provide long-lasting moisture. Still, the Relief Sun Rice Probiotics SPF 50 is a great option for everyday use.
Interestingly, Beauty of Joseon Skincare is not as widely recognized in South Korea as it is internationally. That doesn't mean it's not a good brand—South Korea simply has many large and established skincare companies. Because K-beauty has become extremely popular in Western markets, Beauty of Joseon Skincare focuses more on international consumers. Fortunately, that makes the products easier for me to access, so I certainly don't mind.
